The Paleo Diet for People with Multiple Sclerosis

The Paleo Diet also known as the caveman diet is all about whole food, it is a great big shift away from how many of us eat, in the case of someone who has Multiple Sclerosis this can bring it's own issues. As MSers we have a few issues to contend with, fatigue, use of our arms and hands and also our lower body when standing and preparing the food we need to eat. Personally I grew up with my father after my parents were divorced, although men are known to be great cooks and chef's my father was not one of these, so meals were simple, meat and three veg type fare.

Simple or plain meals are fine by me always have been, it's the way I grew up and I've got more important things to do than slave over a hot oven or hot plate. Meat and steam veggies are more than fine by me, granted every meal with beef/steak will have fried onions, steamed vegetables are accompanied with lashings of butter, both items are allowed on the Paleo diet food lists, well mostly, the paleo diet as with most "new" things are then tweaked and adjusted usually for someone else to start their very own new business, it's difficult to sell whole foods unless of course your a farmer or green grocer or butcher. So these new age Paleo proponents need an angle, they need a spin to sell why their version of the Paleo Diet is far better than the rest, it's quite sad really, but they pander to the human need to soften things, to make things easier, to allow things that aren't strictly Paleo to creep in so they get many more followers or cultists as I like to call them ;) If you want to gain a benefit from an MS perspective, I would personally advise you stick to a strict Paleo Diet regime, after all we are what we eat.

Often people with MS or other diseases and disabilities just don't have the control over their lives, often having to rely on others to prepare meals and do the shopping, so it can be very frustrating when you want to make a lifestyle change for the better, but the thing is in many respects it's often easier because of the simplicity of what you are eating, sure you'll need to totally cut out some things and introduce other items in there place, so it's far better to build up to starting the diet rather than just jumping in blind.
