Well-Being:: Food for thought
STILL NO MAJOR ATTACK!

Still not back to the pre 1997 me - and may never be - but will be delighted if my Paleo/Gabriel method and Jonathan S Christie guided changes continue to keep me MS attack free.

The hot weather saps me of all strength, but I am steadily improving in many ways.

My adjusted approach is basically:
avoid all refined vegetables oils including margarine.

Reduce refined flour and refined sugar.

Eat organic eggs often.

Daily probiotics - I drink kefir cultured milk as I have the culture at home. I have also used the culture
to make pickled vegetables.

Less starchy or sugary carbohydrates, plenty of protein, and lots of natural fats, including saturated. Organic butter in the refridgerator, Macadamia and olive oil in the pantry. Bacon is back on the menu!

I do take some supplements as I really do not eat enough to get all of the vitamins and minerals I need.

I also listen to a meditation CD regularly.

Medications:: Getting LDN in Brisbane/Queensland
There is no money in industry funded LDN trials as naltrexone has been in use for years as a standard 50mg for drug addictions - and those with an autoimmune disease do best with a dose anywhere between 1/50th and 1/12 of that.

Which is why the MS Society itself has funded trials, and there are some private trials going for other autoimmune diseases.

Stubborness has worked for me so far - and dietary changes to a way of eating partway betwen the Paleo diet (recommended for msers) and the Gabriel Method, with some tweaking based on Jonathan Christie's Food For Vitality. Not perfect adherance, mind you.

No major attacks since early 2000's. But if another hit in spite of the changes I have made I would see GP and Neurologist until I had my LDN script!

General:: Has the MS Society helped you???
They were shut but back this week. If you havent had a reply I would phone/email again as maybe it got sent on to someone who is not back yet.
If you phone the advertised number I think you go to the nsw office (the 1800) but you can also phone the Blackburn/Footscray direct.
Good start person at Blackburn is Louise, she is the coordinator I think, but is a really helpful lady.
I would give it another try being this time of year.
Re: Melbourne meet 2010 (the thought cloud) [by MissCrytty]

Melbourne - VIC:: Melbourne meet 2010 (the thought cloud)
Hi Everyone, Just want to make a reminder post that we are doing a chat night tommorrow night so we can gather more ideas of where you would like to have a meet up. So please come in with any suggestions you may have and open minds :)

PennySue, Reeceo and myself have been having a good look around, and we have some ideas in mind, but we need your input too. Keep in mind that this one is probably sit down a lunch kind of thing.

Things to be mindful of in advance when we do make suggestions.

Accessability: as pretty as a rooftop garden up 3 flights of stairs would be its probably not going to be the best kind of place for those with walkers, scooters, chairs and canes.
Also think about ease of access via any mode of transport, I know I'd probably have a bit of trouble getting to Wilsons Prom given I don't drive, I also think I'd have trouble trying to find Endeavour Hills when driving from Geelong.

Think about the budget: I'd love to do lunch at a the oyster bar or that fancy stone steakhouse sure, but the utitlity companies may not like me so much when I pay my bills late and I still get to look at an empty fridge for a week. These are tough economic times, and I think we need to be mindful that some of us only rely on our pension cheques to get by.

Children: (This has been a tricky one, as I don't have any, so I'm not good at relating too well) this is probably a day out for the grown ups, so where possible if you can leave the little ones with trusted family and friends its strongly encouraged. However that all said I know its not always easy, so if your in a situaution where finding sitters becomes achallenging, bring them along :).
This means when we do suggest places, perhaps we make sure that they do cater to having the little ones there in some way or another.

Future plans: I wanted to start a this thread for 2 reasons. Firstly because I'd love to meet everyone and secondly so there would be a brainstorm for ideas to be able to regulate several meet ups that overall suit everyone.
What has come out so far is the desire to have different kinds of meetups that cater for more ourselves specifically and then meetups we can bring the whole family along to.
So this is where if we want to start getting together family outings, everyone starts getting an idea of whos interested and where it should be and the best kind of dates to do these things.
But first up lets make sure we get a venue choice out of the way.
Its also a great oppotunity for us to get together as Victorians, so if your out there and can't make this meet up pop on in to the chat and say hi, tell us what will help you come to future meet ups, so whever organises future events can take that into consideration.

Once we have finalised our decisions of where it should be, we will create a brand new thread for it (and we'll probably cross post it onto the new forum too so no one gets too lost)

See all tommorrow night (Monday, 11, Jan, 2010) in the chat room at 8pm (if you can't make it ontime, we understand, and we'll probably wait around long enough to try an get as much otu of it as we can (within reason though))

cheers.
Crystal

If you're going to follow through with this - Remember to get a referral from your GP or neuro first!

It's not OK to ring the doctor at the centre direct.
